Brenton Cottman is a Painter and Digital Matte Artist working
in the visual effects industry.
After graduating from the School of Visual Arts in New York City
where he studied realist oil painting under Steven
Assael and Marvin
Mattelson, he moved to Los Angeles to work in feature film
visual effects. Specializing in 3D Matte Painted Environments,
he is responsible for the design and creation of completely digital
locations and set extensions. Combining traditional artist training
with the latest digital painting, modeling, and compositing tools,
he has created numerous environments for a variety of features
including Avatar for which he received the Visual Effects Society
award for "Outstanding Matte Paintings in a Feature Motion
Picture".
